Subaru cars and crossovers are some of the most well-rounded in their segments, offering ample practicality, comfortable accommodations, standard all-wheel drive, and cutting-edge safety features. And with an appealing Subaru nameplate in many of the industry's most competitive segments, there's something for everyone looking to improve their Massachusetts drives. With the new model year steadily making its way around, here's a quick look at the Subaru models receiving notable updates for 2023.
2023 Subaru Crosstrek
The 2023 Crosstrek adds a fifth trim to its lineup. Situated between the Premium and Sport tiers, the new Special Edition (SE) wears an exclusive Desert Khaki paint color, unique 17-inch alloy wheels, and Crystal Black Silica exterior accents. The cabin sports black and red upholstery with red contrast stitching, a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen, and leather-wrapping on the steering wheel, shifter boot, combination meter visor, dash panel, and center console.
Subaru is also expanding production of the Crosstrek Hybrid in 2023. Powered by a StarDrive® Technology-equipped direct-injection SUBARU BOXER® engine, this plug-in SUV achieves an EPA-rated 35 MPG/90 MPGe, with a 480-mile total range. And with an estimated 17-mile electric-only range per charge, the Crosstrek Hybrid offers a way for adventurous Newton drivers to try out the EV experience without commitment to 100% battery power.
2023 Subaru Legacy
Subaru's midsize sedan returns with a midcycle refresh, including a bold new look highlighted by a more prominent grille and redesigned LED headlights. Additionally, the 260-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter engine—previously reserved for XT variants—is now also standard on the Sport tier.
2023 Subaru Outback
The iconic wagon-turned-midsize-crossover also receives a midcycle refresh, including new, more prominent bumper sculpting and protective cladding, a larger hexagonal grille, and reworked headlight clusters. Additionally, models with the 11.6-inch STARLINK® touchscreen (all but the base trim) get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
The 2023 Outback adds a new Onyx Edition trim level. Previously, the Onyx Edition was only available as a turbocharged XT variant. This addition allows New England drivers to access the model's distinctive style and appealing features without the added expense of the upgraded engine.
2023 Subaru Ascent
Subaru's adventure-ready three-row family mover receives its own refresh, with a new grille, revised lighting, and more amenities for the base trim level. Ascent's standard 6.5-inch and optional 8.0-inch touchscreens have been replaced by a new standard 11.6-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. A 360-degree camera system and a Cabin Connect driver intercom make their way to the Ascent lineup for the first time.
2023 Subaru Solterra
Named after the Latin words for "Sun" and "Earth," the all-new Subaru Solterra delivers Subaru's signature capability in a more nature-friendly electric format. It's powered by a 215-horsepower StarDrive® electric powertrain with up to 228 miles of estimated range and special EV-tuned versions of Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive and X-MODE® traction management systems.
