The Subaru Outback vs. The Ford Escape

Buying a new car is a big financial decision and many drivers around the Norwood, MA area tend to shop around to make sure that they find the vehicle has everything they are looking for and at a great price. Clay Subaru wants to help our customers easily find the information about which vehicle has more cargo space, more advanced safety features, and is better on fuel. So we have compared the Ford Escape to the Subaru Outback in all of the ways that matter most. This way all you have to do is get behind the wheel of a new Subaru Outback at Clay Subaru and go for a test drive.

Powertrain

One of the most important things a new vehicle has to offer is powerful and efficient performance because no matter where we go we all want to enjoy the drive. Both the Outback and Escape have multiple powertrain options, but the Outback is more powerful and more fuel efficient.

  • The Ford Escape is available with a 165 horsepower 2.5L four-cylinder, a 1.5L EcoBoost that generates 179 horsepower, and a 2.0L EcoBoost with 245 horsepower. The 2.0L EcoBoost engine is only available on the top level trim of the Ford Escape.
  • The Subaru Outback has two BOXER engines for drivers to choose from. The standard 2.5L four-cylinder BOXER engine with 175 horsepower. Or the available 3.6L six-cylinder that kicks out 256 horsepower. The Subaru Outback is also more fuel efficient than the Ford Escape with 32 highway MPG.

Performance & Utility

Not only does the Subaru Outback offer a more spirited and efficient driving experience the Outback also has a higher standard towing ability and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Every 2018 Outback has the ability to tow up to 2,700 lbs. while the Ford Escape can only tow up to 2,000 lbs. when properly equipped with the available Class II Trailer Tow Package.

The Ford Escape Titanium, which is the top level trim, can tow more than the Outback when powered by the 2.0L EcoBoost; which will cost extra.

The Ford Escape is also available with an all-wheel-drive system that can't compare to Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system evenly supplies power to all four wheels for traction and control regardless of conditions. The Outback also comes standard with X-Mode and Hill Descent Control for enhanced performance on and off road.

Advanced Safety

Safety is important to everyone and the Subaru Outback has a long-standing reputation for building some of the safest vehicles on the road that are available with some of the most advanced safety features. The Ford Escape is only available with some of the same safety features as the Outback. The Outback offers drivers with EyeSight driver assist technology which is the combination of:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keep Assist and Sway Warning
  • Pre-Collision Braking
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management
The Outback also features High Beam Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Interior Space

Whether your car is full of people or packed for a weekend getaway interior space is important. Because you want your passengers to be comfortable and still have room to spare. This is just one more way that the Subaru Outback outshines the Ford Escape. The Escape has a passenger space of 98.1 cubic feet with a maximum cargo space of 67.8 cubic feet. The Subaru Outback, however, has 108.1 cubic feet of passenger space and 73.3 cubic feet of adaptable cargo space.
