Compare the Subaru Ascent to the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander

At Clay Subaru, we want to help drivers from all over Norwood and the surrounding areas find the right vehicles to fit their needs and budgets alike. Whether you're looking for a three-row SUV to offer more space and versatility for the family and their things, one that can provide you with the ample cargo space that you need or you want a vehicle that you can grow into for the many miles ahead of you, the new Subaru Ascent offers everything that Boston area drivers are looking for. The Ascent is a three-row SUV with seating for up to eight passengers, plus plenty of cargo space. With standard all-wheel drive on every model, you can take on poor weather conditions all over Newton with confidence knowing that you have the traction and control to traverse any surface with ease.

We want to help make your decision easier on you. That's why we're going to compare the new Subaru Ascent to other vehicles in its class, including the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander, giving you some perspective as to why the Ascent is a great fit for you.

2020 Subaru Ascent vs. 2020 Honda Pilot

  • When facing snowy or icy streets around Quincy, it's important that you have a vehicle that can do so without slipping and sliding all over the road. That's why all Subaru Ascent models come equipped with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, providing you with the utmost traction, control and confidence when facing bad weather or rugged terrain. The Pilot offers available all-wheel drive, but comes with standard front-wheel drive.
  • When facing that deep snow in Braintree, the Ascent makes it easier by providing you with 8.7-inches of ground clearance on every model, giving you ample space between the bottom of your vehicle and the snow below. The Pilot also offers impressive ground clearance, but falls short with 7.3-inches.
  • Both vehicles offer plenty of available cargo space for all of your storage needs, but the Ascent gets the edge over the Pilot. With all the seats up, the Ascent offers 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space, or up to 86.5 cubic feet with all the rear seats folded flat. The Pilot offers 16.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats up and up to 83.9 cubic feet of space with the rear seats down.
  • To help you stay in control of your mobile device on the go, all Ascent models come equipped with a Starlink multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing you with an easy control menu for all of your favorite functions while you're behind the wheel. The new Pilot also offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but they don't come standard.

2020 Subaru Ascent vs. Toyota Highlander

  • Whether it's snow covered roads in Needham, MA or off-road terrain on your next trip out of the city, with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive on every new Subaru Ascent model, you can conquer it all with ease. The Highlander also offers all-wheel drive, but it's an available option and instead comes with standard front-wheel drive.
  • The Ascent is available for slightly less than the Highlander is. The Ascent starts at just under $32,000, while the Highlander starts at around $34,500, meaning that you could upgrade Ascent trim levels for a comparable price to the base level Highlander.
  • Behind the third-row of seating, the Ascent offers up to 17.8 cubic feet of cargo space, compared to 13.8 cubic feet of cargo space in the Highlander.
  • The new Highlander offers more standard horsepower than the Ascent does, but the Ascent gets the edge in torque, offering 277 pounds-feet compared to 263 pounds-feet in the Highlander.
